about

Beacon tells the tale of two legendary humans that personify the deep challenges that are faced by those living with or caring for mentally challenged/ill people. We came across this couple while sailing our old boat in Queensland. We happened upon them in an achorage in the Burnett River and promptly became friends over cups of tea and muffins while we shared stories and learned their remarkable life story raising a son with schizophrenia and autism.

lyrics

Well their love is deep and wide, like the sea that they love
They have stood the test of time, through thick and thin
Salty tears, red wine, sun kissed hands entwined
On their their faces read the lines

They’re the heart of the family
They keep an ocean of memories
When the storms come, and they always do
They know laughter will see them through
They're a beacon in a wild sea

When their youngest had turned three, and he still could not speak
Friends stopped coming round, the questions came
Growing fears, dark signs, scary voices in his mind
Mum and dad, the only ones, who could understand

Heavy shoulders... anyone could break
Walking through flames… but they always find laughter in the rain
